Gemini was founded in 2014 by the Winklevoss twins and it seems to have been the world’s first licensed Ethereum exchange.
GUSD aims to introduce the US dollar into the crypto space, making the transfer as easy as sending an email.
Imagine being able to send and receive U.S. dollars like email. Today, we are making this a reality with the Gemini dollar — a stable value coin that allows you to send and receive U.S. dollars on the Ethereum network. #tothemoon https://t.co/nPyd9IiPgT

According to the white paper, GUSD uses ERC20 contracts and was built on the Ethereum blockchain. Users first need to deposit USD into their exchange account and then convert them into GUSD tokens. Then, tokens can be withdrawn from any Ethereum basic address.
